Take a trip to the great ocean road on a lovely spring saturday and its top class, fly down during a bushfire/drought season and its ugly, brown and polluted. Seen it in all sorts of seasons, once in a cold winter, out in the snow, super expensive but WOW, ski ing not up to much but amazing to look at gum trees in snow etc, blue sky. Worst thing about victoria to me was the flies in summer OMG bit of a shock it might be light till 9pm for a couple of months but the flies wrecked any chance of being outside.

In a nutshell, good and bad about it, I like that.
Yup - May - August is precisely when Melbourne might be grey - cos it's winter(!) And based on experience, and study, Melbourne is the greyest place in Australia in winter. Sydney and Brissy get heaps more winter sun but Melbourne more so than parts of Northern Europe - grey but bright if that makes sense.

That balances out in Spring and Autumn where you get nice Brit summery weather early 20s, but not unbearable heat like high summer - which is at least not humid like other state capitals. So I personally find that Melbourne's weather from Sep-May the best with a short window in between. And last 2 years 06/07 we've had short 3 month winters with little rain. 2004 was wet - our first winter.

There is nowhere perfect in Australia - weatherwise but maybe Sydney ....if you can cope with humidity in high summer.
