Hi,

Just looking for some advice please. Husband has a slipped disk that acts up maybe twice, 3 times a year. He can be in some pain for a day or two until his meds kick in. Question is will this go against him and should he inform the doctor at his medical? Is there any way they can find out ie: hospital records etc. He can bend over and tip his toes at any given time but not when his back is playing up. Im so afraid that just before the medicals , his back will kick in!! Any advice really welcome. Thanks

I'm in the same boat except mine "went" last year and while its got a bit better, it still hurts on a daily basis.

Luckily we had already decided to make the move so I haven't been to the docs or hospital so there wouldn't be anything on my records. I went to a private physio(thanks mum) who said I can take my records with me.

Saying that though - -we have booked meds for the 5th May and I'm just hoping it doesn't get really bad for then :scared:

If it does I will just grit my teeth and perform whatever I have to without letting on

We're already in Oz on a 457. Dh has ruptured one of his discs - he did it about eight weeks ago - and we were concerned about the impact when we went for our meds a couple of weeks back. He declared it on the form, and to be honest, the doctor just asked if it was getting better and what the options were if it didn't (dh has been offered surgery if it doesn't improve with time). Dh told him the name of the neurologist he's seen and that was the end of it. He really wasn't that interested. Far more interested in his blood pressure reading!

Thanks everyone for the input. Dh has only been to his Gp once about it and then a specialist, had an xray which showed up the slipped disk and has not been back since. Just takes his meds and recovers. His specialist said that the next time it happens he can give him an "epidural" for the pain (which dh has not taken that option)or surgery if it doesn't get better.

Just be real careful before the meds. No lifting or strenous moves a few days beforehand, take it nice and easy and hopefully it won't be a problem

My husband had a prolapsed disc a couple of years back and had an epidural for pain relief and then when the pain started again a year or so later he had to have pain relief injections under general anaesthetic. He was honest on the medical forms and never had a problem.

Thats so reassuring for all of us.

I banned steve from going to the doctors for ages before our medicals, just incase. But saying that we didn't even get to touch our toes in the medical, I think the doc was blind. I think on the med forms it asks when your last medical appointment was and for what, at least ours looked good from that point of view.

My husband had a slipped disc last year and he was a Cat B on the medicals. Nothing serious though. We had a letter from his spinal surgeon (who happened to be my boss at the time) saying it wasn't a problem and he was treated with anti-inflammatories and pain-killers and there wasn't any comeback.

Thanks for that. Maybe it would be a good idea to get a letter from dh's specialist stating that there was no comeback? Because of your husband being a cat b, did you have to validate in 6 months?

Failure to declare an existing medical condition can be construed as visa fraud.

Visas can be cancelled at a later date if it ever comes to light and is considered a serious matter.

You could then be deported.

Best to be honest in the first place.

I totally agree. From what it seems, being honest and open is the only way to go with this. My main concern was if it went against us but judging from the feedback its not a big problem.

The medicals are really very basic

The whole process is based on trust. You are unlikely to fail through anything like this so why take the risk

A letter is a good idea. We're on student visa so no need for validation. Just took longer to come back because it was a cat B.
