I think they have doubled in price nearly. We paid 470 each when we flew to OZ first time. My sister got quotes around 1000, so she didn't come.

We paid £750 each when the hubbie and I went to Brisbane in September 07. He has now booked to go to Auckland in June for his mums 60th birthday and the cheapest he could get is £916 with Singapore Air. Big jump in price, I agree.
My hubbie was going to go in July but prices were £1100/£1200 then, he was told by all the travel agents he spoke to that the airlines put up their prices from July 1st for the school summer holidays, even though most schools don't start their summer holidays until the end of July.
So as other posters have said, the trick definitely seems to be to avoid all school holidays.

I paid fo rmy wife to go a couple of years ago and decide a couple of days before she left to with her, £550. for the beloved £297 for me. same flight.
We went again eight months later and both paid about £450, emirates
Both times we booked through travel bag and left it late to book, you takes you chances, so to speak. but they do seem expensive at the moment, we just waited until we could find good deals, then booked and went.
