Marks and Spencers

Just found out recently that M&S now ship to Oz for 20 pound, for those of you that miss the store - I know I do :)

Tearose, keep an eye out, they sometimes do promotions where the shipping to Aus is free for a limited time. Had it a few times already in the last few months, usually a minimum spend limit (+- £80) & then you can get the parcel shipped for free

Oh, I'm off to the website to have a look - Ohh a yes for food packages, I used to spend a small fortune in the food department, I always told myself to steer clear but I couldent resist :)

How long does shipping take ?

I had a parcel from them a couple of months ago when they had free shipping offer on. It came pretty quickly, no more than 2 weeks & they keep you informed. very good service I thought:thumbsup:

So, do you have to spend a minimum ?

What do you miss about M&S ? I miss the underwear and bedding :)

It was the underwear for me!
Not just for me though, the men in my life too! Boxers/trunks whatever you call them, are ridiculously expensive here. For myself, I just could not find the style of knickers I liked here & I did try!
It's funny because generally my attitude is that you have to get on with what is available so for example, the lack of Walkers crisps doesn't worry me, but a girl just has to have good undies!

There was a min spend for free delivery but I managed that quite easily!

Re: Marks and Spencers

Maybe we could write to them and ask if they would be interested in opening a store here - I know I'd work there for them and I'm sure you would too, so that's two members of staff that they already have before they get here

Did you have to pay import duty on your goods sent from M&S? Good news is hear M&S are opening a few small stores in Oz in 2010.

I've ordered a couple of times on the free delivery promotion & both times had the order arrive here within a week - not bad!

Oh this is fantastic news  keep us updated if you hear any more info please, it's about time they opened a store here, they have them in Dubai & Singapore already, so you'd think with all the expats here they'd seriously consider it

Ok. I did e-mail them and here is the reply that I have received

I've checked our systems and unfortunately we do not currently have any
information regarding a new store opening in Australia. Though this does
not mean that we are categorically not opening a store there, we would
normally expect to find record of the new opening on our systems. I
appreciate that this is disappointing and I apologise for any
inconvenience caused.

never mind perhaps one day :)

I read months ago somewhere that they were opening concessions within a particular chain store in Oz but unfortunately cannot remember the name of the store!

The Marks and Spencer plan to open in Australia

In 1998 Marks & Spencer announced that the Company has selected The Just Jeans Group as its franchise partner for Australia, but seven months after the announcment, they postponed those plans.
In recent months (2009) it seemed to have resurfaced, but it appears that the reports were not actually correct, and did relate to the original 1998 news media release from: www.prnewswire.co.uk
Online M&S sells more of its famous knickers to Australia than anywhere else in the world.

But, even though the company’s debts have fallen from £3.5 billion to £2.5 billion in 2009, I doubt they will be moving this way for a long while.

What do M&S have that Australian department stores don't? I don't see M&S being anything special, it's a run of the mill department store in my opinion. Many obviously disagree based on the posts on this thread so far.

People have faith in the average which is what M & S is. There are dozens of better shops in the UK, particularly for clothes but people like what they know.

Each to their own I guess! for me, it is far superior to anything Bonds can produce!

M&S........ a good reason to emigrate to Oz!

The sad thing about the UK shopping experience is that you can go to any city or town and find the exact same shops. Clonesville really. There is very little uniqueness.

The idea of wishing to import this to Australia is horrific in my mind!

Take Australia for what it has to offer. It isn't the same for weather, shopping or many other things. It isn't better, it isn't worse, it is different & it is Australia.

Absolutely!
After seeing the so called 'superior' quality underwear here, at shocking prices, it's back to ordering M&S for me....;)

Sure. I don't buy clothes in Australia. It's either Singapore or KL or online for me - and then only once or twice a year.

Shopping for electronics, cars, outdoor stuff, tools and radio control planes rocks.
Shopping for clothes sucks the big one.

You're not confined to Bonds in Australia. There are other brands out there which I find more than adequate. However I must admit that I have never tried M&S underwear so maybe I am missing out on something special with so many positive comments....or maybe not.

Berlei have the closest to M&S, but even their quality isn't as good, and at more than 4x  the price of M&S, I'm better off ordering M&S.... the prices & quality in Aus are truly shocking.
