I have a mate who works as a mortgage broker - so he's pretty close to all the major banks and knows people who know people etc etc.

He reckons a few of the big players are heading for a rise this week and have already slotted in at least another rise between now and May, regardless of what the RBA do to official interest rates......

Will be another 0.25 by end of May (on top of this weeks rise) ....

Who knows after that - long range forecasts are that it should settle down later in 2008 - but who knows..??

.....and just to add to the confusion the ex rate spiked up from $2.11 this morning to $2.13 after the announcement.....probably because there was the outside possibility of a 0.5% rise priced in.

The EUR to AUD rate also jumped suddenly to just under 1.64.........so I slipped a quick deal in........heading back down again now. The EUR has fared relatively well despite the comparatively lower interest rates in Europe.
