Anyone have any recommendations for someone to do a local removal within Sydney? We've decided we don't much like the house we've been renting the past six months, and are moving a few streets away to somewhere that feels a bit friendlier (and cheaper). The move should be quite straightforward as a lot of our stuff is still in the boxes it left the UK in! Anyone got any recommendations, hints, tips, etc?

All the existing moving threads I've found are for people moving to/from the UK, we're only moving half a mile!

I think most people who move within the Sydney metro area do it themselves. A couple of mates and a trailer are all you need. You can hire the trailer!

Sadly we need someone to do it for us - both Mrs R and myself have bad backs, we might get half the job done but we'd never move the double bed or the fridge!

Haven't you got a couple of mates who would move the heavy stuff for you? I would help but I'm afraid I'm female and rather ancient. I would imagine removalists are expensive. I expect that's why people do it themselves except when they're going interstate - as we have always done. I know at one time Grace Bros, now Myer, did removals. Don't know if they still do.

Have a look in your local paper - if you're only moving a couple of streets away, the average 'man and a van' would do you. Most local rags have scores of ads for them.
