Living In Queensland On SIR Visa
Hi All
Wonder if we can get a bit of advice ...
We are applying to live and work in Oz on an SIR visa since Queensland currently have my occupation (Printer) on their "wanted" list.
We know that on this Visa we can't live in the CBD however we have seen several areas and Springfield/Springfield Lakes seems an ideal place.
Does anyone out there know if this is an area we could legally live in, on this type of Visa and anyone got any thoughts/views on this location or any other similar ones. We aren't city types.
Cheers and thanks for everyone who posts there's some wise and wonderful people on this forum!

Hi Mark
If you go onto the Queensland Govt website and look under Migration there is info on the SIR plus a skills in demand list that states the areas that the trade is in demand.
We looked at Qld SIR but opted in the end for SA.
Good luck

we too are going on a sir visa. first thought about Toowoomba but have now changed our minds. going to sunshine coast. seems anywhere north of that is ok. Been told it is ok to go into brissy to work so long as the company is based in the post code allowed. there is a list on the dimia website of all the post codes allowed for queensland. good luck.

How far down the line are you with your SIR?
We have just submitted our TRA application so a way off I suspect altough we paid for urgent processing, due to hubbie being a printer.
Been told Printing is off the list next year so need to get the Yes this year or we might not make it! :scared:

Re: Living In Queensland On SIR Visa
Hi there guys,
We have been to Queensland to visit and its very nice but unsure of the areas you mention.
We are also going for a SIR visa from the Victorian Government and my hubbies is also a printer. It was on their skills in demand list in 2004 but now it isn't, but as it still is on the SOL list and has 60 points we can apply. So we are just sorting our application.
What is the work like in Queensland?
Have you got your skills assessment from TRA?
Jo

Believe it or not we haven't even done a "reccy" Strange folk I know!
We weren't planning to look into emigrating for a couple of years but we met this weird and wonderful bloke called Daryl from Thinking Australia at the Emigrate show and he advised us as we are a little short on points (made 110) we needed to get the application in now whilst SIRs' were still available for Queensland otherwise we would end up in Darwin as they'll take anyone (his words not mine!)
Queensland seems to have plenty of printing places judging on the www.yellowpages.com.au website and from what we have heard it shouldnt be too difficult as long as Mark isnt picky about the type of printing.
Have you had your TRA assessment or is that what you are preparing?
Will keep our fingers crossed for you -
Jodie n' Mark

Re: Living In Queensland On SIR Visa
Hi there,
I have a feeling that my brother was looking into this visa and im pretty sure Springfield wasnt on there anymore. However, surburbs very nearby were - Greenbank, Boronia Heights (Beaudesert/Logan). If you have family over here, the 139 visa (skilled designated area sponsored) does include Springfield but a family member has to live in one of these areas. Do check this out though on the immigration site in case i have got confused between visas. There is a list of postcodes and springfield is 4300.
Springfield is 30-45 mins from Brisbane CBD in traffic and has HUGE develpments taking place. We have purchased in Augustine Heights, which is a new suburb opposite Brookwater and really like it out there. The new towncentre and shopping complex (Orion) are being built at the moment.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need further info.
Helen
