Unfortunately, although the Government sets wage levels for jobs here, (it can all be found on "wageline" site) - most employers here want to pay as little as possible for as much as possible.
When I worked in Eastleigh I was paid around £15 an hour (1997) - the same jobs here in Queensland are paying around $11 an hour!!! Yes, houses are cheaper - a three bed victorian terrace in Market Street probably costs nearly as much as our 4 bed detached with pool on acreage here - but once you`ve got your house, got your low paid job, the rest is the same - the only other thing cheaper is petrol - but you have to cover so many 000kms a year, even that isn't a big bonus! Mind you, the weather's a damn sight better! |

I'd love to see examples from other professions, anyone got any? |

Hey, to be honest i dont give a s**t what i do when i get there, im a plumber/gas fitter in the uk but once im in aus i dont care if i sweep the streets with a tooth brush, i got enough dosh in the bank for a nice sized house to be built, a couple of cars, the kids education and some left over for saving.
One thing iv noticed is people are always comparing prices and quality of life thinking "Money = quality of life = Happy". As long as i got my health my wife and my son with me i'm happy with life . lifes to short to keep whinging about how much you Could be erning in the uk PB why dont you hurry up and get back here and make room for us dreamers ;) |

Most Plumbers I know in the UK charge like a wounded bull , never do anything on the cheap its a good paying game. I'm with you- my husband, my son (and little one under manufacture!), my family, my friends (many who I have met through this site), a home I can buy outright, cars and a half decent wage, and of course lets not forget the beach and the sun- it's sooooooo cold here, snow and sleet (with no end in sight!), papers full of war (we I believe are the number one target) and Operation Ore. I cant wait. Money doesnt make me happy (though it will be nice to have a bit!)

If I want to practice here as a self employed accountant or sign companies annual reports, I believe I would be required to sit a local tax and law exam. In essence there is a reciprocol arrangement between the two chartered institutes, i.e. they do recognise each others qualification, but subject to this local exam condition. I would guess the ACCA has a similar arrangement - why not have a look on their website? I suspect another poster on here, Alan Collett, knows the answer to this question as he's an ACA with an Australian migration business. Alan? |

You seem to suggest that you dont give a s**t because you have plenty of money in the bank, which completely contradicts what you say after.
