Default Lismore NSW (nr Byron Bay)

Hi

we are planning a visit to Lismore, NSW (near to Byron Bay). To look at the Southern Cross Uni and its facilities.

Can anyone recommend somewhere decent, but economical to stay?

Thank you

Sorry to muscle in on your thread, I am about to apply for a job in this area, I have visited Byron Bay but not Lismore. What is the area like?

As for finding a place to stay look at this link, nothing much in Lismore but worth a look

Thanks
Tara

Its very hot in summer & absolutely freezing in winter :scared: . Make sure you take your winter woolies & be prepared for small town mentality .

It used to have a drug problem.

I live 20 mins from Lismore in a place called Casino. The beef capital of NSW. It is 10:30 a.m. and the temperature is 22 degrees. It does get hot - sometimes 40 degrees plus in the summer but Autumn and Winter can be very pleasant - like today. Admittedly evenings and early mornings can be cool to cold in Winter. We still haven't lit our wood burning stove !
As for Lismore itself it is not too bad. Being a University town there are a lot of students around. I don't think the drug problem is any worse than any other town - where I emigrated from was far worse IMO and that was in South Wales. You get used to to the small town mentality - it has it's compensations - friendliness for instance. The town I live in has made us part of them in just 5 years. We are now local.

Further to my earlier post - Nimbin is the " place " with the problem. It is a real eye opener. It's very interesting there with the alternative shops and the decorated fascias - but you do not stay around if you don't live there after 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. That is when the stuff is openly offered on the streets and it is grown around the area in great quantities. The police are always doing ariel raids in the forests and having big bonfires !!

Thank you for your replies, so far!

Sounds an interesting place?

Does the Uni have a good reputation and is there any chance of getting my son locked up mid afternoon while he's there??

Small world. I'm in Casino myself. I'm not an expat Brit however; I'm an Australian.
