My other half is from there so has told me quite a bit about it, but I'd love an unbiased view from someone who isn't 'encouraging' me to move there! Anything and everything... day to day life, weather, scenery, things to do, the people, shopping, restaurants... pros and cons, whatever.
Thanks

Melbourne visit
Just spent a few days in Melbourne. A few points I noticed:-
Weather was slightly colder than Sydney but without the rain.
Very high level of Asian population (Oriental Asian as oppose to Indian). Far higher than Sydney or Brisbane.
Local TV news carried reports everyday of stabbings and shootings in Melbourne. Salvation army wants to start patrols.
Massive amount of construction activity in converting former office blocks to residential. 2 bed flats going for A$250k off-plan. Centre seems to becoming saturated with apartments. Interest rates ~6%. Some talk in papers of investors switching from property back to shares, possible property market crash, investor buyers drying up.

And I hold my hand up when I say that I went the long way as I wasn't sure what the traffic was going to be like. There is a quicker way, which I found out when I drove home and went a different route. It only took me 30 minutes to get home!!
