leaving do's....

Iv'e just booked our party tonight. We are having a BIG party with fancy dress optional- Australian of course. I am about to give the D.J his instructions plenty of good music including Australian, and the end of the night perhaps "everywhere you go always take the weather with you" or even "I come from a land down under" Rather than the usual depressing "when you walk" I want to end on a high.
We have only just sold our house, so lets hope it doesn't fall through. We've been told the process will take 6-8 weeks, so we are having the party at 5 weeks, so we will still be around for a wek or two after the party, so it hopefully won't be too upsettiing.
I'm really exited can't wait for a
up. all iv'e got to do now is sort out 5 fancy dress outfits on top of everything else. Oh and diet like crazy

ditto to that!!!
I reckon we will just have a few close mates over, have a few drinkypoos and talk about the good old days!
No way could we have our parents at a leaving do, the tears would be awful!
I keep telling them it's not goodbye anyway, it's just see you as soon as we can!!

We had a big leaving party and it was great, booked a function room at a local hotel .... had big buffet and a cake with kiwi flags all over it, loads of ballons and flags all round the room. Me and my mate trimmed the room in the afternoon and we had the music blaring, opened a bottle of wine and had a great laugh. It wasnt that expensive to organise, everyone really enjoyed themselves, we booked ourselves and my mate into the hotel for the night as did some of our other guests and we all got completely p**sed. I dont remember the end of the night much lol but there wasnt any crying we were all too busy enjoying ourselves and we have lots of great photos to look back on aswell and people are still emailing ones I havent seen which is a nice surprise when we get them

We're not having one big leaving 'do' as we imagine it to be just like our wedding reception - a great 'do', but we only got to spend 5 mins with each family member / friend, before having to move on to the next.
Instead, we shall have lots of 'little' outings - my workmates, his workmates, our close friends, then family.
And it means we get to avoid one huge blub infront of everyone we know.
(lots of little ones instead!
)
Good luck to everyone, whatever you do!

Those of you who've made the leap, what did you do for leaving do's in the UK?
My mates and family are all getting a bit crazy about sorting leaving do's. A lot of my mates are married, and seem to be using my leaving as an excuse to plan weekends away left right and centre. Their wives (most of whom are good friends too) have got it on for me now - I reckon they'll be glad to see the back of me.
What did you guys get up to? And do you enjoy them, or does it just bring home to you how much you'll miss everyone?

Also means I miss the emotional 'big party' which I wouldn't look forward to

Hmmmmmm I just don't know
it would be nice to see my mates, but I don't want a huge fuss by the out-laws or people that don't really care.
Blim is going to Istanbul with my brother to get his eye surgery done & that will be a good opportunity for them to spend some time together. I fancy going to Prague or somewhere different with my SIL as we're good mates.
Will deffo have to have a party on arrival though, after we've got over the jet lag!
