When the last council kerbside collection was on I put a perfectly working order Mitsubishi 17" CRT monitor (cost about GBP300 new) out along with all the other crap that normally gets chucked. Most of the other stuff was taken before the collection date but the monitor was left behind.

Can't even give them away today!

BBC Model B. I had one of those. Great computer. Spent far too many hours Basic programming. Oh, and playing Elite!

There's an emulator that plays all the old laserdisc games. Forgotten what it's called but you can download the exact Dragons Lair rom and laserdisc images.

The march of technology ... I tried to give my iPod to a beggar the other day and he wouldn't accept anything less than 16Gb.

Did you know you can get BBCBasicForWindows?

http://www.bbcbasic.co.uk/bbcbasic.html

It runs under XP and Seven - hours of retro fun!

Cool, I was into the emulator scene a few years ago when I had more spare time ... great fun rediscovering games like Buggy Boy and Carrier Command.

I did not know that ... I've got a BBC emulator somewhere and a shedload of disk images ... just the sight of that boot-up screen and the blinking cursor sends me back to the days of a PEEK and a POKE.

Great machines for getting your hands dirty with Assembly Language too.

Try downloading the BBC4W trial - I bought the full version and it runs and compiles just like RISCOS - all the BBC modes and even the sound channels if you want to get really nerdy!

To those of us reminiscing about the BBC, Spekkie, ZX80/81, Acorn Atom, Dragon 32, Vic 20 etc I recommend the recent BBC film "Micro Men" its about the Sinclair vs Acon battle to get the BBC contract & the whole home computing revolution which started so many of our careers, I'm sure its somewhere on the web for those who'd like to see it.

The RISC OS was ahead of it's time.

I have to say, I think the kids these days are missing out.
