For example the family across the road use wireless and I can log on to their network and view/edit all their stuff. I know I should really tell them to sort it out but its very handy when my own network is down as I can use theirs.
I will tell them soon though, as soon as the house is sold.

The other day I set a friend of mines next door neighbour up with a wireless network and he pays £20 a month for this from his provider. My friend is a light user of the internet and his neighbour was quite happy for me to set my mate up with a connection on his laptop to his network. My friend offered him some money and they agreed on a fiver a week so they are both happy.
This is good if people cannot afford their own broadband (although the prices are coming down constantly now) or they just dont use their connection all the time.
You cant beat being wireless.

I've been doing a little research myself on this.
In the UK you can pickup a refurbed laptop from many places but the places that have caught my interest are the dell outlet shop for surplus and return stock
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/de...=uk&l=en&s=dfh
Similarly from comet
http://www.clearance-comet.co.uk
There's also plenty of ebay auctions for new Dell laptops and you can transfer the warranty.
And if you ant to pick one up in Oz there's always http://www.graysonline.com.au/ for auctioned equipment.
Cheers

They'd have to trespass on your land to use your network
I don't have an acreage but, our wireless router only has a range of about 20 metres, and we have it at the back of the house, it won't even work in the front garden never mind next door or across the road.JTL

Hi All
Not to jump in I am also looking for a laptop as the computer will be stowed away. In Holland its bloody expensive so thinking of buying one either in Singapore or in Aus by dell it seems they are having a good offer now.
I am looking for widescreen
-512 mb
- 60 gb
- dvd burner
- wireless connection
Can anyone tell or direct me places where I can look for in Singapore. I will there for 5 days
Thanks All
Badri

I've just been out looking and Dell seem to be the best value, maybe I'll wait until I arrive in Aus to get one and then I can see if I can get a bargain in HK

Whats good about it is you can knock them off the network whenever you like or specify certain times etc.
It wont work for everyone though. They live in relatively new houses so the walls are thin and so on (although they are detached). One of my old Directors lived in a Victorian House and had trouble getting a reception in the next room due to the walls being so thick!

Hi fraser wayne bought me a laptop from harvey norman store in brisbane.
It cost him $1600 ish.
He said that there is a harvey norman in melbourne, he thought best to buy in aus for warranty purposes.
Also it was a lot cheaper than england it is a compaq model very smart.
Hope this helps a bit

During the transition period some of the older laptops were rebaged and had both the HP and Compaq logo on them. The Compaq only ones will probably be phased out for good so you may be getting a good deal or an older-new laptop....if that makes sense, depending on the specs!
The popular make is DELL because of the worldwide warranty etc.
