Kiwi's living in Brisbane ?? (Jayr / kiwipaul)
Just interested to hear from any Kiwi's now living in Brisbane. I know this is a Brit expats forum but us poor Kiwi expats have nothing similar.
Anyway....If the likes of Jayr / kiwipaul & others can post some of their kiwi perspectives on the following questions it would much appreciated.
Just things like:
Where did they stay when the first arrived?
Why did they choose the area they live in?
Reason for leaving NZ?
Main differences from NZ? (could be a long list!)
Cheers

Sorry to disappoint but I am not an ex-Kiwi, I've never even visited. I think you'll find KiwiPaul is another Brit though he has lived in NZ

We decided to leave about a year ago. We feel that the "Maori" problem in NZ is going to get way out of hand. Just waiting for the wife to get over the birth of our second nipper.

Try a search on "don brash", pretty much what he has said in the last week or so is 100% correct. Dont like being a second class citizen and seeing our taxes being spent on favouring the ethnic minority.

Politicians change all the time. What brings you here rather than what pushes you from NZ? Would you be taxed less here?

Well I came over about a month before I finally moved over and took a room in a house share for 3 months went back to NZ and arranged to ship everything. Stayed in the house share untill my furniture arrived than rented.
Wanted somewhere warmer than Auckland, but with good chance of finding IT work, Sydney too expensive, Perth too isolated, Melbourne and Adelaide too cold in winter. So Brisbane it was.
After 7 years in Auckland I've virtually seen the whole country and the couple of holidays I'd had in Oz had wetted my appetiate for a change.
main differences from NZ:
More Americanised.
Distances are mind boggleing (whereas in NZ a couple of 100kms gave a vast chance of scenery, here a couple of 1,000kms and it hardly changes).
Wanted year round summer (and I've got it).
Fancied exploreing the country properly and you can only do that when you live their.
House prices in Brisbane were lower than Auckland.
Verdict is still out on wether I'm going back to Auckand.
