Don't get me wrong I think you're all caring concerned parents but so far I don't see any evidence that anyone here actually understands what they're doing.

So I'll play House and lets see what happens.

of course I'm not so naive that I think it doesn't happen, but it is still scary.

Clue. Nothing to do with UV or skin damage.
There's also sunstroke - not pleasant, I've had it as a child. Shaded areas are cooler in the heat?

On the subject of total sunblock - what about the fact that we need a bit (I'm not saying to allow children to play out in strong sun for ages - but athis is something I've been wondering about) of sun on our skins (vit. D. or whatever, production).

Sunshine on skin is important in the production of Vit. D (if I remember correctly) so wouldn't account for shade or sunhats.

Why not just *educate* us then, a bit daft to string it along if you've got a point to make.

Now we're getting somewhere.

Thermoregulation. Why's this important for kids??

Because it gets peoples attention and hopefully saves some poor overprotected kid a miserable existence or possibly death a few years down the track

Lack of Vit. D can cause rickets

Thermoregulation is the ability of an organism to keep its body temperature within certain boundaries

Well, for a start, over hot children can fit - erm, this is called something and I know what it is, it's on the tip of my tongue... but nope, it's not quite coming to the forefront of my mind.

LOL! *Anyhooo* heat can also affect other parts of the body - think how heat can affect sperm production (there's a reason those balls jangle around on the outside of your body).

Not to mention possibly dehydration.

Erm, there's a list really.
