Maybe those in Mozzie afflicted areas should encourage the cockies so they eat the Mosquitoes.

I encourage the lizards, (Gekko's, I think) they eat both mozzies and cockroaches, and don't harm us at all.

Not Mozzies but flies, went to the 12 apostles yesterday and it was that thick with flies you could have walked on them!,went 3k down the road to another site and it was bereft of them, must be specially trained to hunt down tourist areas!
But seriously what is the best repellant on the market over here, were fair driving us wild!

Filthy Tourists crap in the bush and run down roos. The only thing flies like more than your wet lips.

Less flies here than we had in England !!

A good repellant is AUTAN, available in spray on. Smells OK too. :)

Almost...you left out a bit...are you a journalist???

I guess they do not like the [Hydrogen Sulphide coming back from the sewage outfall out to] sea breeze.

Cheers for that Florida. I wish all the invaders down the beach could read that as well. At the moment the effluent is pumped out several kms in the Ocean which is better than the days of the Bondi Cigars.

$200,000,000 is about to be spent upgrading the plant in North Bondi. I live in South Bondi Beach and the smell never reaches here.

My sister married a great guy from Myrtletown in Brisbane. Believe or not we used to go pig shooting in Pinkenba. The main outfall in the Brisbane River is at Luggage Point. We used to catch a lot of Churchill Mullet...you know the ones with the big brown cigars in their mouths.

The number of sewage outfalls in Brisbane and surrounding rivers is a concern. Think you are catching good Bream at Beachmere? Check how close to the outfall you are. I watched the Caboolture River turn from a river of life to a turgid outlet.

I have read that encouraging dragonflies into your garden really helps, however that would mean water such as a pond would be necessary so more mosquitoes in the first place.
One good tip however is to have a ceiling fan fitted above your bed, I seem to get bitten during the night mostly and have it on good authority that the rapid air movement deters Mozzies. 1 they cant locate you as well and 2 they get blown over to your partners direction if you set the speed right!

If you are living near the river, or a creek, a drain or even in a low-lying area (and there are many!) or even if you water your pot plants too much....... then there are bound to be mozzies. They even come out of the garden in the daytime, the only thing for it is repellant. Ah, to DEET or not to DEET. There is a brand called "Autan Repel" which doesn't have DEET etc and is apparently safe to use on toddlers (but read the label!). There is still the risk of mozzie-borne viruses (they are hard to diagnose), so don't get bitten!
If you are going to be living in a "Queenslander" style house without window screens then invest in a mosquito net- they are cool, kinda like being in a tent & camping! :D

Best stuff is Avon 'Skin so soft' original woodland fragrance.
Contains Citronella.Even the fishermen in Alaska use it so it must be good.
A downside(or bonus depending on your preference )for the men is that you will smell like a 'Ten buck Whore':D
Keeps the litte sods off though.my wife uses it all the time.
