well, i decided to take the kids on a 5 day break to Butlins minehead (their choice) just got back.
what can i say, it cost an arm and a leg, the weather was typicaly crap (avarage of 12 degrees day time, 3 degrees night) the wind was cold and gale force. The food was all take away style, the service was appalling and staff were rude. We had one day of reasonable weather (wednesday) and we went to Ilfracoombe, what a beutiful place, when the sun shone and the wind calmed, the views were breathtaking, the sea clear, the streets clean, the people friendly. the kids (aged 14, 14, 12, and 7) loved it, they went off exploring on the beach and rock pools (and never once asked for no money for the amusment arcades!). there are some wonderful places in the UK, but the few hours of sunshine made me realise that moving to perth (yes i know it rains there too!) will give much more opportunity for my family to get out doors and appreciate the natural beuty that surrounds us all.

wish they had a spell check!

We spent a week at the very same place last year. Though we could save some money for going to Oz by having a short holiday in the UK. Butlins turned out to be very, very expensive. Everything that the kids wanted to do costs extra. It was like going to a very expensive funfair everynight. I was sick of Harry Ramsden's fish and chips. I thought I'd stop at Stonehenge on the way as well to see what all the fuss was about, but they were going to charge me for that as well. It would of cost 40 pound for us to see a pile of rocks!
Never again!

Just got back from Centerparcs Oasis in the Lake District - the upmarket Butlins, had a lovely time, sunny weather (mostly), nice people, great swimming pool. I have to say that I also had a really nice couple of days at the Butlins in Minehead a few years ago.
Do you have to pay for the fun fair at Butlins these days? Did any of you win any knobbly knees competitions?
Cheers

no you don't pay for the fun fair or the swimming pool but you do pay for
crazy golf
lazer quest
bowling
go karts
bike hire
cinema
£2.80 a pint of lager
£1.60 small glass of cola
£5.00 fish and chips
and endless pennies and pounds for the countless amusments arcades and trivial gifts that the kids must have during the evening entertainment!
all together including the bungalow (joke!) accomodation, food and spends (more because it rained most of the time) for 4 children and 2 adults total of £800. 000. which has gutted me because that acounts for almosst another room to our dream home in Perth (when we get there!)

We took the kids to Cornwall at Easter and had amazing weather (for once). The beaches are beautiful and the scenary breathtaking. Kids had a great time and spent time playing on the beach and swimming.
When the weather is good and the sun is out you can really appreciate the beauty of some of the UK. Sadly it rains here mostly!!!
We live by the sea but hardly ever get to take advantage of the fact because of the weather. A bit of sun is certainly the carrot for me!!!! I don't think our kids are really bothered as long as they are out and about

Little harsh on people who choose CenterParcs I felt! Could be cos I have a weekend booked there at the end of the month with my mates!
I am not Posh!!!!! Just looking forward to a weekend drinking and hopefully a BBQ if the weather permits. (preparing for the Aussie lifestyle!)

> Just looking forward to a weekend drinking
Take your own booze - it cost me £4.10 for a glass of wine.
When we were there last week there were loads of groups of people without children, it was odd to see people complaining because there were children having lunch in the restaurants.
Regards

Oh yes we will be taking our own food and drink. We already have the list written ready to go buy!
