hi everyone, been away for a week, to de-stress. thought things were going to well!!! the dog has hit problems with her blood results, wont be able to come to oz with us, her results werent clear, shes got something called ehrlichia, anybody ever heard of it??? weve had the kids in tears all afternoon. god knows who we will be able to leave her with. :scared:

we knew from the outset we would not be able to take our 12yr old german shepard with us, she would never make the journey.
to make it worse we may have to put her down before we go as she has never had another owner and makes her self ill if i am away from her for more than a couple of days!

we won't be migrating for at least another a year, so i intend to enjoy it with her as much as possible

It must be devastating news that. Last time I went I left the cat with a friend because she was old and did not want to put her through the journey. She died of liver failure about a month later.

Devastating at the time, affected me more than the break up of a seven year relationship. !!

Oh that must be devastating, I feel so sorry for you! lets hope you can find a good home before you go.

thanks everyone, people dont understand unless they have animals of their own. we are really upset. we have no one who can take her, so are going to have to look into re-homing her through rspca or something similar. any suggestions anyone?

This is probably not much help, but we told the people we sold our house to that our 8 year old cat would have to be put down (we wouldn`t have done that), so they said they`d have her. At least that way, we knew they were caring enough for the cat not to be put down, and the cat stayed in the house she`d known for all her life...

I had to rehome my dog a couple of years ago after a relationship break up and due to my job was away from home all week. There was no way I wanted to take him back to the RSPCA. They advised if I found an owner who was willing to take the dog on they would do the checks they do for all adoptive families.

I put an advert in the Local paper and you would not believe the response. Inundated! I also got a call from some animal welfare group but her mind was put at ease when I said the RSPCA were going to do their checks.

A woman came to meet me and Bugsey (the dog) we went out for a walk to see how they got on.

She loved him and wanted her family including 3 kids to meet him so we arranged that I would visit there house to see where they lived. It was lovely in the countryside loads of fields for him to run in.

He got on great with the family and I was happy for them to have him. They had already had an RSPCA check just that there were no suitable dogs in at that time.

Anyway I gave him up about a week later. Broke my already broken heart but I called a couple of times to see how he was and he was fine.

2 years on I do think of him often (sounds like a right love affair!) but I know he has a happier life. I think if I had given him to the RSPCA I would always be thinking how is he who's got him but at least I know

I hope this helps and I would give the ad in the paper a try at least then you get a say in who has your baby!!!!!!!!

I do feel for you. I am leaving my cat behind who I adore but my dad is having him and I know where he is and will know how he is

Really sorry to hear about your dog, you must be feeling really crappy. I dont know how we'd cope if we had to leave ours behind, we're taking both of ours but havnt got as far as their meds yet. advice would be to speak to your vet about re-homing as they speak to pet owners every day and may hear of someone looking for a dog,also most vets have a 'board' in the waiting room to put msgs on, at least that way you know who your dog goes to. Not much consolation but hope it helps.
