Sadly, Rinehart is phenomenally stupid, so she doesn't understand why Australians are not inspired by Africans on $2 a day when she earns $48 million a day. I don't think Rineheart is worth 24 million Africans.

That's incredible, great news that is, it's also coming down a bit in the UK at last.

5.1% beats the hell out of 8.3%, which is a gross understatement concerning full time employment or not counting those who have given up.

For the most part if you give up the search in the US you get no check. Makes being illegal moot.

Sadly the most incredible part about it is, to be counted as employed you need to work just 2 hours a fortnight.

Yes the Americans do the same neat little trick. Some have calculated that without all this statistical fudging unemployment there is closer to 14% than 8.5%.

If I were to take a punt I would say unemployment in Australia is at least around the 7% mark.

I put no faith in the governments unemployment statistics these days. Gillard is telling some stooge in Canberra to go away and fiddle the figures until they come back as acceptable. Some 'creative' accounting going on.

You may be right but I think most countries would also be doing it.

I think the UK likes a good negative news story, the slightest wiff of unemployment going up and papers like the Mail are usually all over it (usually the fault of the immigrants according to papers like the Mail ). But yes, the majority of world governments are fiddling the figures these days, it is all about re-election afterall don't forget.

Australia's media likes to stick it's head in the sand more than others. There is a feeling in media and government here that if they don't hear the bad news then it doesn't exist and it won't impact on them. It is like when a child is being told off and they cover their ears and go LA LA LA LA LA so they cannot hear the bad things, if they wish hard enough it might just go away.
