Jellyfish-question
#1
Hello!
First post on the general forum...
We are coming to Queensland on a bit of a reckie/holiday next week....
My 15 year old and I like diving and were hoping to get a couple of dives in before we head back to the UK.
The question is... I vaguely remember somebody mentioning that this time of year is jellyfish season. Am I right, will we be unable to go to in the sea off the beach when we get there? Will it pose any problems further out... Jellyfish are the only thing I really hate, and now I'm a bit worried....

thanks very much!
The good news is that there are no jellyfish officially anywhere at this time of year!

Depends where you dive. There are no stingers in southern QLD waters anyhow but the north is a different matter. But you will be very surprised how cold the water can be this time of year. Personally theres no way I'm diving until November and sold my dry suit before I came, which as it turns out was a bit of a mistake now hehe.

Went diving from Cape Tribulation (waaaaay north) last weekend - stingers are only around in the summer months, and then only in coastal waters - out on the reef not so much a problem.
Got to watch out for crocs as well in the summer apparently as they are regularly seen in the shallow waters of Cape Trib beach
Don't worry though - there'll always be a bottle of vinegar handy

I went sea kayaking in cape trib around feb march time a few years ago and the sea was full of box jellyfish...it was literally like a soup of them and you certainly couldn't have gone in the water
Saw a few baby crocks too in the mangroves
