Now I am liking the sound of that.

I like to take photos/videos, make phone calls, send texts, use net occasionally, but more importantly I like the word/excel etc so I can make notes if I need to.

Still a lover of Windows Mobile and can't understand how grown men (or women) can have enough precision in their fingers for a touch screen. I've tried to get along with them, believe me, as The Geek got an iPhone the first day it was released here. I still like a stylus.

Currently have an HTC Touch HD, and love it way more than I should love an inanimate object.

(I've had a couple of O2s so this was a natural progression. The cast-off Blackberry I had as a temporary measure sucked.)

Yea, battery ilfe sucks. Mine spends a lot of its time plugged into something - cradle in thc car when I'm playing my podcasts, USB lead on my Mac when I'm working. Quite unbelievable bit of kit though.

I've heard good things about the new Android 2.0 phones - amazing screen, 5Mp cameras, GPS, compass, wi-fi plus an application market that's probably going to provide the only viable competition to the AppStore.

Yes, I have an HTC Dream running Android - It's an excellent phone, though the lack of a flash on the camera is a pain. Personally, I would recommend the HTC Hero running Android 2.0 - This is an awesome bit of hardware with a very slick interface and does pretty much anything you want it to. With the free Documents to Go App you can view MS Office files on the go.

The application Marketplace is excellent - There are tens of thousands of free (and non-free) third party applications to suit everybody's needs.

I don't think that the Hero is available on contract yet, so it may have to be an outright purchase, but as Hutch says, that's a much better way of buying a phone here - not locking yourself into a particular provider.

Forgot to mention that if you use Gmail, Gmail calender and Google talk, all of these are fully integrated at the touch of an icon with the Google phones. The integration is seamless. Google Maps is also good too, particularly if you get lost, plus Facebook, twitter and all that other internet time wastee stuff...

I use a Nokia E-71. Sort of a Nokia business Blackberry. Like the real keyboard. Small screen but very slimline phone which is important for me - can't do with larger phones. Great for business apps.

The real IT tech guys I know of love the Iphone.

I've got one problem with it.... based on the Itouch straight away. It cannot play streamed video from my computer ..... IE: I couldnt watch something I've downloaded to my Computer without converting it to H264 ? Unless there is an applicaton that I dont know about. Which would be handy for watching in another area of my house....IE via wifi..... Unless I store that video on the net, watch via 3g ?

If you have a powerful enough PC running the server software, it is capable of trans-coding in real-time from formats such as xViD, DivX etc to the Apple native format.

I've got it on my iPhone and it works very smoothly indeed.

One other question can you transfer an IPhone applicaton from one Iphone to another ?
If so how ?

I would have thought with all the charges there was some kind of protection in place ?

As long as the device is attached to one account, it shouldn't be a problem. I regularly transfer purchased stuff bought using my iPhone/and or iTunes onto my iPod Touch as my iTunes account is bound to those two devices. You can also share purchases using the new home-network technology available via iTunes.

Only fly in the ointment from my point of view is Itunes.... I hate the way it tries to run all the media on ones computer. Plays havoc with my Cowon at times... when the kids have switched on Itunes as ones main media application.

I've got that covered anyway... so should be able to live with it.... although it's a bit like undoing a knot, if I've not noticed it switched on.

Right, I have checked various reviews, spoken to a few people and have decided to go with the Nokia E72 phone.

I have 8 months left of my contract and Vodafone have decided to waive the fee and send me a new phone right away, it means another contract but I cant afford to buy outright so hey ho.

Should get my phone next week.

How does that work out cheaper Hutch.

Reason I ask, is with 3, you can now get an 8gig Iphone on the same plan we are on for 49 dollars per month.... a 16 gig one costs 5 dollars per month extra... a 32gig one 10bucks per month.

I anticipate that in 3 months maybe more the 16gig Iphone will be free as well as deals change constantly within the Mobile phone market... I would imagine that the 32gig phone will be 5 bucks per month extra on top of our current 49 dollar per month plan.... you get 500 mbs of download included in that 49 dollar plan.... make that 1gig I just checked.

Now the only plans you can get under 50 bucks with 3 are 19dollar plans... which are hopeless for even minimum use... 29 dollar plans or 49 dollar plans which we have had for years... regardless of what phone or contract we were on.


So what plan do you run yours on ?

I did the calculation with a Pennytel sim @ 8 bucks per month and 14 dollars per month for 1 gig....I'm not sure that over 24 months you finish in front taking the purchase price into the equation.
