1 Republic of Korea 22.39Â Mb/s
2 Aland Islands 19.05Â Mb/s
3 Latvia 18.11Â Mb/s
4 Japan 16.86Â Mb/s
5 Romania 16.26Â Mb/s
6 Lithuania 15.89Â Mb/s
7 Andorra 14.93Â Mb/s
8 Sweden 14.89Â Mb/s
9 Bulgaria 14.25Â Mb/s
10 Netherlands 13.74Â Mb/s

These are of course all "Country" averages. Some parts of each country are much faster than some others.

eg: If you live in Redcar your average will be 14.72, or Kington upon Thames with 13.67

If you are with ADAM Internet in Australia, they have an average of 39.72, whilst Gyron Internet in the UK average 57.99

But on average, it appears the two countries end up being pretty similar, for most people.

Did you ever hear about using carrier pigeons as at network transport, its an official internet rfc (1149), issued on 1st April(!) 1990 - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1149.html

And some saddo's actually implemented it (55% packet loss due to bad weather) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_over_Avian_Carriers - the average ping was 5222806.6 ms :D

OK, I'll get my coat!

Very good ... I did not know any of that, I'll file it alongside the "I am a teapot" HTTP error code ... 418 ... but you knew that ;)

How are they getting those speeds? Fibre-optic? I thought the upper limit for regular ADSL2+ was 24Mbps.

No idea, but I had a quick look... "Get up to 40Mb/s Ethernet without being in a fibre area"

The eDSL service is available from 2048Kbps then 2Mbps increments up to an access speed of 10Mbps, then in 5Mbps increments up to 40Mbps
E-Vision eDSL-40Mbps $1,967.16 per month

I think those specials need to be excluded from average rankings... :D

I entered the new billing month today, with pleasing results:

No more throttling until I reach my next d/l quota!

(OK, so it's only an extra .95Mbs, but it does make a difference).

Tweaked some router settings and squeezed a little more speed out of the old beast.
