Internet Speed results
I have just upgraded my Internet speed, and find that I now have an average speed above the Australian normal average, according to www.speedtest.net
Mine
I am actually on par with Taiwan at position 37 with 6.65 Mb/s
How Kyrgyzstan can be faster than both UK and Australia still makes me wonder.!

Re: Internet Speed results
Why you lucky, lucky bastard. Personally even this woeful speed of mine is the result of war with Telstra for a year. Laughably, I'm the envy of my street because at least I have ADSL whereas everyone else is on 3G. I could only dream of ADSL 2 or cable.
I didn't tell them that's because I had a mac automator routine set to reapply every day for a year and I knew somebody on my subexchange would move and a line would come free
Australia - third world ADSL structure and pricing - Check !

Interesting as I did this exact same test 6 months ago and I was getting 23.4mbps. I live 200 metres from the exchange so i get pretty good bandwidth. I guess there must be more subscribers on that exchange now.
Also you should note that the Australian average is one of those people who have used the speedtest service. I doubt that is even close to the true Australian average. In fact I would be very surprised if the true average is over 1mbps

Re: Internet Speed results
I don't know how to paste a picture of my result here but it was a rather pathetic 3.95mb with BT.
What does Ping mean?

Re: Internet Speed results
One day I may go up to ADSL2+ when it becomes available at, the right price, so far it is too expensive in my exchange (Telstra only)

Re: Internet Speed results
Adsl 2 in Melbourne gives you this...109 bucks per month 130 gigs download, plus 100 pct free phone calls to 70 countries around the world and 150 mobile or 500 mins of Mobiles per month. IInet and Pennytel....
I cant wait for IInet to start their Cable TV Station..... then its goodbye foxtel.

Re: Internet Speed results
My ISP is TPG and I'm on their 200Gb plan (100/100). I live a massive 3.5km from the exchange, so my broadband is about as fast as a dead slug. In fact, it's so bad I don't even notice when they shape me down to 2Mbps!

My result is for wireless so not as good as it could be and my daughter was downloading a movie when I did the test.

Re: Internet Speed results
Ahh that's a shame. Our business speeds are actually much better than that, but we are literally next to the exchange. We are some way away at home and it's not too bad.

Re: Internet Speed results
Too embarassing for words - ACT have a "wonderful" service called Transact which allows a giddy 1.05mb download for some extortionate rate. Task for Monday - move to something a lot quicker. Mind you, I cant actually say that it appears like a dead slug except when downloading movies and such.
