I am actually on par with Taiwan at position 37 with 6.65Â Mb/s

How Kyrgyzstan can be faster than both UK and Australia still makes me wonder.!

What are the top 10 countries? Uk and Aus seem very low.

TPG do faster than that here for 49 Aud. Throttle speed after 130 gigs is 1 Mb, so Aus is slowly improving. They've just announced a totally unlimited high speed plan no Throttling.... the first in Aus I think 75 bucks. Hmmmm :sneaky:

http://www.tpg.com.au/products_servi...icing.php#80GB

Dammit can't get it in Coburg.... would people please check and tell me if they can ?

I'd get onto this if I was considering a change, they've done this before I think, and stopped the offer after a few months. They keep the plan alive for exisiting customers though.

in essence the lower (faster) your ping the better at sending and receiving data your connection is.

if you play games online (MW2 anyone :D) then you want to have a fast ping so you dont suffer from lag. it is how quickly data is sent to a server and back again.

i think anyways

What does Ping mean?

Ping is the roundtrip time to send a packet to a server & get a response. It is used to check if a host is contactable and tells you the latency of your connection. The 3.95mb/s is your bandwidth, i.e. how much data can be transferred at a time (maximum throughput).

This is from our temp rental home, not bad when you consider the broadband costs about £7pm (£18pm including line rental).

The one thing people don't do is the Pong Test ... one is useless without the other.

The ICMP reply packet is sometimes reffed to as the "pong".

Did you ever hear about using carrier pigeons as at network transport, its an official internet rfc (1149), issued on 1st April(!) 1990 - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1149.html

And some saddo's actually implemented it (55% packet loss due to bad weather) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_over_Avian_Carriers - the average ping was 5222806.6 ms :D

OK, I'll get my coat!
