I'm with BigPond paying way over the odds for a paltry allowance that includes uploads.

Do I win a prize? Yes, it's on the list of things to change ...

I am also an Internode user and have been very happy with them: very reliable, decent prices, and they are very responsive to email and phone inquiries. Also, OP, I notice you say that you don't want to pay for a phone line - well, if you get Naked ADSL from Internode and get the VoIP compatible modem, they will give you a free NodePhone account. Just plug a normal house phone into the modem and you can call to/from a "normal" local phone number. Obviously the calls are charged for (cheap) but you pay no line rental. Also, Internode exempts downloads from certain services (ABC iView and TiVo among them - I think?) - maybe other companies do too, I don't know.

No, I am not on a commission! Whirlpool is a valuable resource in any case for choosing between companies.

I also recomend internode I always got top support from them, unfortunately they are not in all areas so I had to go with iinet recently, although iinet are expensive they are pretty good and provide nice easy web tools to monitor dowload limits and things like that

iinet for me too - been with them for nearly 4 years and have had few problems.

I would be tempted to try another ISP as there are some good deals around now but last time I looked, my local exchange did not have any spare slots so I'm sticking with iinet.

Quick question as working out monthly costs etc.

If I take iiNet broadband with phone option do I have to still pay a provider for the phone line or is that all covered within the $29.95?

Have tried looking on their website but can not seem to find answer.

In the UK I use Sky for broadband and TV but left phone with BT.

Cheers,
James

are bigpond / telstra really that bad ?

i am looking at getting the foxtel platinum iq tv package bundled with them

cost $188 with line rental and 50gb broadband

install / setup and wireless broadband all included

just rang up internode and cant get the extreme adsl2 package where i am so 15gb costs $69.95 and $29 line rental

and would then have to pay foxtel $120 per month for tv

also iinet doesnt work out cheaper for me for same download size

are bigpond really poor with customer care / service / speed

Big pond are ok with speed and customer service for the most part. It's cost that is the problem. You need to compare Naked plans if you can get them. They are a lot cheaper. The reason you need to compare naked plans is you dont have to pay line rental, which can save anywhere from 25 dollars to 33 dollars per month.

Remember with Bigpond you also have uploads counted.

I chose to pay a hefty cancellation fee, just to get back to IInet..... whos service, customer service and speed is far better than Telstra.

Check to see if the Optus cable goes past your house..... Anyone but Telstra honestly..... there are lots of hidden charges with Telstra, like actually paying your own account, oh and actually getting the bill, on paper that is.

.

i have seen the naked plans and get they are a lot cheaper , but do you still have to have line rental and if so who with and how much does that cost

all it is i am having foxtel fitted and if you bundle it with telstra you get an extra 25gb per month taking it up to 50gb

cost $188 for platinum iq foxtel, line rental , 50gb broadband and phone ,wireless and install
because you are bundling the t.v cost is $20 cheaper per month

No you dont have to pay line rental. You need to check Iprimus/AAPT/TPG/IInet and see if any of those can service you, with a naked plan.

I would also seriously consider Optus if I were you..... although with that you would have to pay line rental, although you will get much better and faster and more download capacity, bundled with your phone costs. Plus they can bundle Mobiles.
