Internet provider recommendations?
 

Need to set up internet in my new place. Will be doing some downloading (all leagl of course ;))so need at least 10 or 20 gb a month.

Any recommendations about which provider to go with?

We use TPG and not had any problems so far.
That quota is considered quite small now have a look at http://www.tpg.com.au/ see if you get them in your erea.

Internode.

Not the cheapest, but their helpline is good, and their spam filtering and antivirus works.

iiNet. They are pro downloading.

iinet. They are great. They are also pro customer support and advice.

They're great. Not had a problem with them at all. Internet is always up and great speeds. iiNet are also against the internet filtering and are currently being used as a scape goat for downloading as they are being sued for illegal downloads by the movie and music industry. (the movie and music industry lost!.. But they have appealed)

Another thumbs' up for iiNet. My hubby is an IT guy and he's very happy with them (I just follow his advice on computer stuff!).

IInet are the best ISP in Aus probably. However TPG have really raised the anti, with their 130 gb's no uploads counted plan. Their big plus is if you go over that level, then you only get shaped to 1Mb's which is quite a fast connection. In fact their 69 dollar 160 gb plan shapes you to 2 Mbp's which is pretty damn fast. TPG and IInet and the other big independants are all on 24 Mb's connections which are high speed.

TPG's plan is 49.95 per month, and will set the standard in downloads for other ISP's to match. With TPG's plan you have to pay Telstra line rental, whereas IInet really promote their naked no telstra line plans.

Hopefully IInet will follow suit with the better shaping speed soon.

The company that repeatedly tops Whirlpool's Australian Broadband survey year after year is Internode. Been with them for nearly four years now and have found they bend over backwards to help with problems. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive either - but you know the saying - you get what you pay for.

I won't be getting a telstra line so am def looking for an option that doesn't require one. A catch with a lot of the high limit deals i've seen is that half the usage is only for off peak times. Also i'm reluctant to the myself down to a 2yr contract. 1 would be ok though. I'll call them all next week and see what view can offer me

I have recently signed up with iinet on a 24 month plan to reduce the set up costs. The guy in their call centre advised there would be a $70 fee if I disconnected in the first 6 months but after that no charge so it sounds like they are like virgin & don't charge remaining periods if you leave early

I heard a rumour that TPG customers have had cease and desist letters about downloading torrents. Shame as they have some great packages.

Agree about iinet. Very happy with what I have with them. Been with them for 4 years and have had very few problems - when there have been issues they have been sorted out quickly.
