Internet Advice
I need some internet advice.
The rental we have just moved into looks to be only serviced by Telstra - http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/vie...5343d941e25fbd
The house has foxtel ports and what looks to be a telephone port.
What I want to know is:
- Can I get naked broadband with another provider or am I stuck with Telstra? (They do a 100GB package for $89 - once remove T-box and includes basic telephone - is this any good? even though paying for a telephone line I dont want)
- If I can get naked broadband, who tops the telstra offer? (not bothered about telephone - will use VOIP)
- How would I get a UK VOIP number? (So that my folks in the UK can call over VOIP as if calling someone in the UK)
- Presume would need a VOIP enabled router that can do wireless and connect a VOIP handset - can anyone recommend a reasonablly priced handsfree VOIP handset and router (presuming wont get a wireless VOIP enabled router as part of a plan)

pennytel.com
This is VOIP and it is 8 cents per call to the UK irrespective of the time you spend on the phone.

UK DID http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/VoIP_DID_Providers Note, LocalPhone now charge 88p/month.
Bog-standard router will do then get one of these easy to use and better sound quality https://www.maxo.com.au/?mt=shop&sho...item&itemid=14 If you get stuck plenty of us have them http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum....cfm?t=1389290
I use Maxotel (10c per call) for Aus land calls and Pennytel for mobile (15c/min) and international (8c for 2hr call to UK). I also have a MyNetFone account which I use for the odd fax from my PC using http://www.zoiper.com/
I like VOIP. Have DIDs from Maxo, Pennytel, MNF for Aus as well as normal Optus number, plus UK Localphone. When daughter gets back from LA I will take her free Google US number.
Probably best to post on WP http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/107 for detailed advice.

I highly recommend Siemens Gigaset IP Phones (Can be bought from Amazon). These are dect landline and SIP. They work better than a VOIP router or ATA as they don't need to reconvert back to Analogue apart from in the handset so no matching problems that can happen with routers or ATA's.
