Default Initial Spendings - Moving to Sydney

Hi,

I am moving to Sydney next month with my wife + 2 kids (10 & 5 years old). I am wondering how much minimum initial amount should I carry for initial expenditures. (I know more the better but just looking for a rough figure)
  1. How much for rent/advance/bond etc. I will look for 3 bed house (not apartment) can be at a little distance from CBD..
  2. How much for initial insurance/registration/medicare/or something like (if required)
  3. How much for a car? May be a used good condition Cammry.. How much for its registration/quality check/insurance etc.
  4. How much for the driving license? For me and my wife
  5. How much for initial house hold items like fridge, microwave, washing machine etc
  6. How much for basic furniture (may be 1 double and matrices for kids)
  7. How much for kitchen crockery

Please add if I have missed anything. I just want to get an idea about what to expect when we reach there.

thanks and regards

If you are in Melbourne then you must have a rough idea of these costs - and if not, how to find them.

I could google NSW driving license, or look at realestate.com for house prices, but so can you! You will need 6 weeks rent as bond I think as well as 2 weeks in advance as a minimum.

Kmart will do basic cutlery and crockery for around $10 each - 4 place settings. They also do cheap microwaves for around $80 (might be less - have a look on their website)

Fridge freezers and washing machine will be more expensive - have a look at the Good Guys - can prob get both for around $2500.

Ikea will do cheap beds and mattresses. You could also try Fantastic Furniture and super Amart - 1 double and two singles will likely be under $1000.

I would allow at least $5k for car - but you can probably get cheaper as well as much more expensive. Depends on age, condition, etc - can't think of car website but google can help again.

Medicare is free - private medical will depend on what you want.
