Default Info on Gas industry NSW

Hi ,

Does anyone know anything about Gas Utility company's in NSW ?. My husband
works as a Site Manager for Gas Mains Replacement in UK . We are moving to Sydney in 10 weeks and Hubby has hit a brick wall with job search . Gas just does not seem to be a big thing in Sydney . He has contacted recruitment agencies and no one has got back to him . We are starting to get a bit worried . Any info on this would be appreciated .

Thanks
Gillian

Hi. Not my area, but these may be a starting point re. retail energy NSW firms/utilities.

Gillian

Just saw this while doing my own search for something else.

I was involved in the gas industry in NSW for the last 9 years, albeit specialising in LPG. But there's a big domestic LPG market in the eastern states anyway. Check out my former company, Elgas, which is the market leader in Oz.

Natural gas is the 'enemy' of LPG in market terms. Energy companies like Integral and AGL may be worth a go. And Origin Energy (a biggie) has a website which has a dedicated section for jobseekers as well. I've seen positions for gas fitters on there often. Might have to head to Brissy though.

Good luck.

To be clear, Brisbane is one of the least reticulated states. There are only about 170,000 houses connected to gas mains (out of a population of around 1.3M in Brisbane).

The main two gas firms in Brisbane are Origin Energy and AGL.

However, there is a big emerging gas market in QLD, just not for domestic reticulated. Companies include the above, BG Group, Queensland Gas Company (QGC), Santos, Arrow Energy etc but these are wholesale not retail gas companies.

I should add, main states for reticulated ags are the colder ones, Victoria in particular I think. It just doesn;t make commercial sense to reticulate ags unless the conumer is using for space heating and this is not prevalent (aside from reverse cycle air con) in the warmer more northerly states. Gas Central Heating (and radiators) is not a well understood concept in many states.

Try Jemena http://www.jemena.com.au/ - they are always looking for gas fitters. (Eastern States)
If you were coming to WA, come and work for us at Westnet Energy http://www.wng.com.au/energy/
