importing firearms to melbourne
Hi I was wondering has anyone imported a shotgun from the uk to Melbourne.
Any info would be great.

You need to have a firearms licence before you can own any firearm.

It really is too much hassle, sell it and get reset up license wise once you get here (AIR RIFLES AND BB GUNS ARE TREATED THE SAME WAY, AS ARE DE-ACTIVATED WEAPONS)
The 2nd link below spells it out and has links to the required forms but basically, you need to be resident here - apply for a license requiring membership of a gun club (after you have had your visa stamped to say you are now resident) taking upto 28 days to process. Apply for an import certificate (takes up to 12 weeks), the shotty will then be permitted to be sent to Australia to be tested, before being released to an authorised gun dealer where you go and pick it up from

Cheers for the info, it looks like it will be too much hassle to import a shotgun, i will sell up and buy a myself a one when i get sorted in Melbourne.
