Hi there, we are coming over in June and are going through the process of sorting things out at the moment. I have lots of filed stuff like bank statements/payslips/P60/tax documents (last 6 or so years worth). Documents pertaining to buying/selling our previous property and things like that.
Did anyone bring these documents with them or did you leave them in UK with family?
Not really sure what to do so some guidance would be great.
Many thanks in advance.

Bumping - Anyone!?

Hi Maggie, we are flying out in 3 days time. We shipped the bulk of our financial documents as the UK tax office can still ask for evidence 6 years back. However we got rid of everything before then and only kept the annual interest statements for the bank accounts etc as they contain all the information the tax office would need. You won't need gas bills, credit card statements etc (I hope!!)
If you decide to leave the documents in the UK, is there anyone trustworthy who could keep them for you?

I'm going over in June too and I'm bringing mine on the plane. It depends on how much you have I guess.

Scan them and email them to yourselves so you have backup copies.
Bring any with you on the plane that are expensive/impossible to replace or you will need as soon as you get here.

Yes, we are carrying some of ours too - birth certificates, qualifications etc as we may need them right away.
