Default Immigration Agents in the UK

Does everybody use immigration agents to apply for the Skilled Independent visas? I know you don't have to use them, but is it worth the extra £1,500?

Is there enough information on the immi.gov.au website to go it by yourself and apply directly?

Whether you should use an agent depends on a lot of factors. Like your own time and willingness to research things, and whether you've anything complex or unusual about your case.

If you must use an agent, make sure to choose a good one. Try Ian Harrop in the UK - his fees may be lower than what you mention. http://www.ianharrop.co.uk

Or why not use an agent in Australia?

I used ASA

www.australia-migration.com

Definitely worth checking out if you decide to use an agent.

Based in Perth but with a UK setup in Manchester. And their fees are cheaper than what you have quoted.
