Default Immigrating to Australia

Hi All,

First time posting in this area of the website so I apologise in advance if this query is in the wrong section. So to get to the point I am currently at University although becoming slightly fed up with my course as I feel i'm doing it just to earn a degree. I have always wanted to move to Australia for reasons including lifestyle, the country in general and sports (former international swimmer). My initial question to ask all you knowledgable souls is what do I actually need to do or areas to be qualified in to stand a chance of immigrating or being sponsored ? I am aware of the points system although not too familiar with it. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

www.immi.gov.au is where to start. There's a visa wizard there where you can see whether you might be eligible for a visa.

Just as an aside, though, what is it about the "lifestyle" that you think would be better in Australia than where you are? You do realise that people in Australia still have to do all the same mundane things that happen in every first world country. Things like work, the weekly shop, housework, etc.

Hi Dorothy thanks for the swift reply.

I'll have a look on the visa wizard which you have recommended. In terms of unskilled migration or jobs not in high demand currently maybe like outback pilots what are the chances there?

For me the lifestyle includes trivial things such as the climate taking storms out of the equation and opportunities career wise not to mention generally a nice place to be.

Hi Aquaman,

If you don't have a skill in demand, you could have a look at a WHV which would allow you to travel and work in Australia for 1 year (2 if you fulfill the regional work criteria) if you are under 31. But this would be a temporary visa only - there is no path to PR.

There are also student visas but these can be quite costly

What career opportunities? Not every career has better opportunity in Oz. Some are significantly better in the UK.

A work/holiday visa is a good idea, as mentioned, if you're under 31. What are you studying at Uni?

Some say naysayers.

Others say realists.

What's the point in saying 'oh yeah, no problems getting a visa, mate, just do what you want to do and the Australian government will welcome you with open arms, no worries'

I think that that statement shows you really need to do some research on Australia and it's climate, dependent of where you are, there are tropical storms and flooding, or extremely dangerous wildfires, the like of which you NEVER see in the UK, which is why there is aq specific area of the OZ forum for warnings about . flood, fire, cyclones and tsunami. The UK doesn't really get anything apart from, compared to OZ, mild flooding.

No answer from me but - and I am NOT trying to be patronising - you stand out as one who can construct a good, literate English sentence. There are too many who can't, or just can't be bothered.

Good luck.
