Hi Sarah,

Hubby and I have just moved to Townsville from Liverpool, been here 10 days and loving it. We came out to visit my brother in February, liked it so much, went back, sold the house, gave up the jobs etc and here we are. We have just come back from the beach, watching the waves come in, so relaxing.

We live in an area called Kirwan, which is nice. We have spent the last week doing the usual things you need to do on arrival, number one was to buy a car, it's a must here, hardly any public transport, then there is the Medicare Card, Tax File Number etc.

If there is any further questions you have this site will have the answers for you, it's great.

Good luck with the move.

Hi Sarah, I'm a Secretary/PA and Steve has always worked in the shipping/logistics industry, but is after a change. We come from Liverpool originally, but have also spent 12 years in New Zealand, so we are used to having access to the beaches/forests etc, and although most of our family are in the UK, it just can't match OZ beaches and the lifestyle etc.

Don't worry about asking questions, I always say that any information is better than non and I'm sure you will love this place. My brother has been here since last October, he says it was very hot when he arrived, and I know that when we came over in February to visit him, the temperature was in the late 30s and hot from as early as 8.00am. The weather at the moment is lovely, sunny, warm, and it's heading into Autumn/Winter.

We got 2 quotes for moving our furniture over from Pickfords and Anglo Pacific. Pickfords came in the cheapest, but not by much, we went with them as they have a depot in Brisbane, which is where your furniture has to be checked by Customs and then it is transported by Road to Townsville about 2 weeks later. We are not expecting our things to arrive until the end of August, we got quoted 12-14 weeks.

If you are looking for a company to use for bringing your money over, don't just use a normal bank, their exchange rates are terrible. Try www.hifx.co.uk. They will send you out an information pack. We used them and so did my brother, as an example, Bank of Scotland are quoting a rate of 2.33 today and HIFX is quoting 2.40. By the way, hifx don't charge you anything for converting or moving your money, which banks will.

We like the relaxed lifestyle of down under, the beaches/forests etc, the UK I'm afraid can't match it.

If you are looking to bring money over, you might like to check this company out, www.hifx.co.uk. They can handle transferring money from the UK to OZ and they have a better exchange rate than the banks. For example, Bank of Scotland yesterday had a rate of 2.33 and hifx had 2.40, this makes a difference in the amount of $s you end up with.

Anyway, must go, Steve and my brother are getting up early, 5.00am to watch the Champion League Final, Liverpool vs somebody, not my cuppa tea.

Feel free to ask any questions you want and I will try and answer them for you.

Adele
