During my stay in Adelaide in 2002 I was told by the owner, that an Adelaide hostel was raised by Police who checked everyones pasports. The Police waited for those who were not there at the time until they returned.
Then ended up catching an overstaying English magician who overstayed his visa! He couldn't magic himself a visa extension! I think it is good that they have these random checks. I have never seen or heard of any checks, raids etc. in the UK.
I think OZ has a very good policy, that any illegal immigrants have to go to Woomera (not a nice place), etc. and it is very hard to get into Oz in the 1st place. This certainly deters people to go to a softer place.

One of the workers, a permanent employee as well, got deported recently. Turned out he was an overstaying Canadian Visitor. Interesting because he managed to get through Aussie posts security check. Probably means that Apost are not worried about where you come from, just whether your a thief or not.

At least they know who two of them are, A man aged 31-50 and some woman over 60!!! they dont mention any of the others!!
