iinet - Your latest experiences/views

Have been doing some research on the best ISP, iinet always seem to come up tops. But I have just read this link

and am quite concerned. It was written quite a while ago, so....
I am thinking of signing up with their Home 3 package with telephone service $79.90 per month. Please could you let me know your recent experiences with iinet, good or bad, and what you think of their customer service and broadband connection. Is there anyone using them in Melbourne? How long does it take for you to get connected with them?

We have iinet at home and Bigpond at work. iinet knocks spots off of the other.
We paid $100 last month for Broadband and all telephone bills. (We are on the lowest plan albeit Broadband 2 (ADSL2+?)
Very pleased with it - I think the quality and speed might depend on whether your exchange has been upgraded - reliable, fast and customer service has been good.

I have been with iinet for 2 years for broadband and home phone. I download a lot and have had absolutely no problems with them. I pay roughly $110 per month for broadband and phone including all phone calls and caller ID.

We have iinet broadband and phone, it is excellent, we have quite a hefty package 80gb a month of downloads, and it works perfectly, rarely had any probs at all, the only time I did, their customer support was superb.

I love iinet! Been with them nearly 1.5 years and the download speeds on ADSL2+ are fantastic. Never had much call to deal with customer services but when I have it has been fine.
At a previous address we were with Optusnet and the service was shocking - our connection was down for hours at a time several times a week - no solution was ever provided.

I am with BigPond (reputation for overpriced service probably warranted) and my ADSL has been down 3 days this month ... try the 'help desk' and you may as well slit your wrists ... the on-line 'service availability' indicator is also a joke. When it works it's good though and the supplied equipment/install routine was top class.
Sorry, no recommendations here but these are my experiences.

Whoever you decide to go with, just steer clear of bigpond. I could tell you our tale of woe, but it's too long to type.

I have iinet 24Mb ADSL2+ (60Gb cap) and phone service for a usual monthly total of about $120-130. I get an effective 18-19Mb and am very happy with the service.

We have the phone and broadband with them and have had no problems. I can't remember my broadband package but it's always as fast as I need it and not noticed it slowing down much at the end of the month. Their help desk were very good when we were trying to sort out a problem - caused by us not them. The problem was sorted pretty quick.

I am in a real quandry now though, I have just spent over an hour trying to get connected with iinet, I have gone through 3 phone cards, and still no joy. I have been put on hold, transfered to other people, have waited 'on hold' and not been responded too, and when my last phone card ran out, I called back and was in the queue for over 5 minutes. So now I have given up.I really need to have my telephone at least, connected for next week when I arrive. I know I can do this with telstra very easily, but if I want to use the iinet package then I will be charged the $59.99 telephone connection fee again. What did you guys do? Did you arrive and just use your Telstra phone line, and then convert to iinet for the broadband later? I am not really impressed by the iinet customer service to be honest : (
