Interesting, it's good to feel safer, but is it right?

Default Re: Iemma urges residents back to beach

I don't think it's started yet.

Years of laissez faire have brought us to this point. The much-revered idea of the Aussie Larrikin has much to do with it: a larrikin is not a harmless, cheerful guy who is fun in the pub - he's an indolent, in-yer-face character who doesn't give a damn for anyone but himself and costs society dear. Tolerating this sort of "larrikin" behaviour for years has innoculated the police, politicians and much of the media against criticism and these yobs now take advantage of the situation every which way.

I heard today - and it was on the radio so it must be true (!) - that nearly all those involved in the near-riots have been bailed despite the law saying that in many of the offences there should be a presumption against bail.

Until the law and the judiciary get their act together and stop pursuing their heart-on-sleeve agendas I see it getting worse not better.
