You can always apply for student accommodation on the campus if they have it, and get the security guy to escort you there. Or get a laptop and work from your on-campus room via wireless connection.
for a UNI to have secrity to escort you, that mean it's a very dengrous place there.
thank you

I did a BA at UNSW and I never had any problems walking around late at night.

Most uni's in Sydney are full of overseas students and of course, Australian students themselves have family backgrounds from all over the World.

Sydney is a big city and big cities all have problems but please do not be scared to come here and study.
I will think about what you said very carefuly
Thank you very much
UNSW is new that why it's good I guess.

As for the 'extremely hard' bit. That's impossible. If you're studying to be a doctor then the educational levels would be impossible for someone doing 'English'. If you're studying a subject because you like the subject and presumably good at it you will be studying at Uni level, it's supposed to be hard, until you finish when you realise it was quite easy. No point in learning things you already know. Degree level is degree level, it's up to you how difficult you make it for yourself.
I have this answered by another website :
"Griffith - I find their campuses (both Gold Coast and Nathan) very outdated and old. Nathan is quite unsafe in that several female students have been raped at night on campus (when walking to their car). But they are situated in quite foresty areas, close to the cities and beaches."

Why are you walking about at 3am?
I'm not going to walk at 3am
I'm saying what if (like going to buy food)

Sorry ain't gonna happen. You will probably encounter no racism at all but to look for a place where there is no racism at all does not exist, not just in Australia but anywhere in the World.

I know that, what is it like (make scared all the time about you life)

Check out the websites for the unis you've highlighted. They usually tell you about the campuses. Then look at Google maps and research the suburbs close to the campuses where you will likely be staying.

I did that, but I want to know from people

I'd guess something might be lost in translation here but in case not. Don't go to university then. Studying at uni is hard, it's meant to be. If it weren't then everyone would have a degree!

thank you

Its 2011 and things are different these days and its a jungle out there.
thnak you, but Aus is not like africa, there is a diffrence

Eldest is doing engineering at the Kingswood/Penrith campus - there are lots of nationalities there, the campus itself is set on a huge green area, its all very pleasant. I wouldn't want to be walking around it at 3am though.

I wouldn't want to be walking anywhere at 3am by myself!

Middlechild is doing IT - he's at UWSCollege in Quakers Hill at present and will go to Kingswood next year when he starts his degree. I have my doubts about him walking around there at 9pm. To be honest, I have my doubts about him walking around there at 9am too.

As for easy/hard - that's impossible to comment on. Eldest is very good at maths and science based subjects and finds it all quite straight forward. Middlechild is doing a diploma and is also good at maths and science based subjects and is finding it quite easy. I have no idea what environmental engineering would require from a student.
Thank you very much I will look throught it
read what someone else said :
"I'd definitely not choose Western Sydney as the surrounding areas can be considered unsafe (I wouldn't walk around at 3am) and is in a crowded, built up area (there is a lack of nature). "

University?don't go to Knocks. It's extremely hard!

I don't know maybe USQ because of what someone answered me :
"USQ would be the most remote location wise. The main campus (Toowoomba) is located in a regional area and is considered the gateway to rural Queensland. It is surrounded by lots of farms and mountains etc. So yes, it's quite, relatively safe, and is not a city but it is still close enough to the main cities and the beaches to travel easily."

The security services are there to protect university buildings and facilities, staff and students. They regularly carry out patrols, there are signs around - the visual presence of a security service (or police off-campus) are known deterrents to would-be criminals. Most universities would have a security service, including the 4 unis you listed:

University of Western Sydney http://www.uws.edu.au/capital_works_...s/cwf/security
Deakin http://www.deakin.edu.au/services/security/index.php
University of Southern Queensland http://www.usq.edu.au/facilities/security
- only the Toowoomba campus appears to have 24/7 security services
- note the security review info on the USQ Facilities Management section of that website http://www.usq.edu.au/facilities/sec...securityreview. Obviously some safety concerns have been raised, but have they been implemented?
Griffith University http://www.griffith.edu.au/security
- not all campuses

I would be very worried if a university did not have a security service.

You are safer in areas where there are more people milling around, therefore you might be at more risk in a quieter location than an inner city one. I have found this a very different feature of life in Australia, where population density tends to be much lower than in other countries.

It is common to have landscaping and bush in Australia, especially on newer campuses. Having bush around does not mean that a place is safer than a place that is more built-up. Those comments that you quoted - were they from a foreign students forum?

All females need to know how to keep themselves safe; males too - they're the ones who tend to get caught up violence arising from binge-drinking, leading to fights, especially one-punch hits that can kill and seriously maim.

I would have no hesitation about getting a security officer to escort me to my car and can remember doing it once. However, there is great remote access to the university resources and you don't have to be on-campus unless you are attending lectures, tutorials, labs, etc. Why on earth would you want to be on-campus at 3.00 am?

I vote for Deakin!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am a student there.

Deakin's Burwood campus is a nice location to me. It's not in what I would call a rough area, would happily live there myself. Not much going on around there so you would have to travel for entertainment. Saying that, Box Hill is only 5mins drive away if you like Chinese food. Train from Box Hill to CBD is 25mins.

http://deakin.edu.au/campuses/InteractiveMapBurwood.php as you can see it's not totally built up.

It's definitely quiet, some may say too quiet. Lots of overseas students. You could always ask here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/80 and http://www.studyconnect.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=20 for different opinions.

Both my children went to Deacon and it was ok, although at the time my daughter was there they had a problem with one of the car parks and had to have security to walk the ladies over to the carpark.

They both also went to Latrobe in Bendigo to do post grad and they loved it there wandered around all hours of the day and night.

To the OP I have lived in Africa and I could say that some parts may be a little like Africa

No it doesn't. I'd be far more concerned if there was no security.

I guess it depends on what you are measuring them against. Yes Griffith opened its doors in 71 but I think you'll find that they have updated everything since then otherwise 20,000 odd students wouldn't want to go there. No idea about the other campuses but the GC campus is lovely and all the people I know who are there are more than happy both with the surroundings and the quality of teaching.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a uni that had never had a rape take place on campus at some point. As I said before, when you have that many people from all walks of life, you cannot help but get a few 'bad' ones, it's life.

You've already been told by several people that no single female should be walking anywhere at 3am. It's totally irresponsible and very stupid.

You seem to be looking for something that honestly doesn't exist, going by your requirements in your first post. I suggest you contact the Student section of each uni on their websites and email them with various questions. It would be even better to actually visit each uni but that may not be possible for many reasons.

Good luck.
