Difference is Australia has what some people consider draconian measures to STOP illegals, and it's working. they are closeing down holding centres (detension camps) because they are empty, as so few refugees manage to make it into the country, and even less want to try their luck once the hear about the results of being caught.

Maybe the Uk should take a leaf out of John Howards book instead of having an open door policy to all commers.

Yes their are illegals in the country but to get here they have to get some sort of visa to start with and so they are on record. If they overstay and are caught they are put in detension, if they try and claim any benefit they are caught.

Hes in the building trade and has not a worry also he built his own home , came here on a holiday Visa and never gone back like many from all parts of the world who are doing the same here.
The chance of getting picked up are small and when you get caught out the immo police tell you to leave and apply back in your home country and the chances are that most get excepted back.

I wouldn't have thought it was small, if he's got a bank account he needs a TFN, if he's got a TFN he needs to submit annual tax returns. He obviously cannot go anywhere out of the country as they would check his visa status on leaving, and he would be banned from returning.

A guy was caught out here last year he had ran his own busines for 14 years in Perth (a Pom) and was told to return to the UK , which he did and applied to return was back in less than year.
The nice immo police prefer you to leave under your own steam so they give you a warning first , the people I socialise with are the dregs of the UK other wise why would they be here.
