Some people "bend" the rules. I met up with a friend of a friend in W.A. who had worked in the same civil service department as myself.
It occurred to me that he would not have had the pass-marks to emigrate, then I found out from our mutual friend that he had told DIMIA he was a plumber, had got a false reference & whatever else he had needed. He is still in Australia nearly 5 years later, working in a private employment office.
I would be lying if I told you I knew the ins & outs of his case, in fact he doesn't know I know about his "rule-bending."

i would speak to a agent about your possibilities. It may be quicker to try to get in to some where like South Australia than Perth and just wait a couple of years and then move to Perth.

Years ago there was a visa I think which was a family sponsored visa. SAL? This would have been back in 1998.

Having a family member sponsoring you helps greatly, but you've still got to be 'skilled' for these visas. Family sponsorship just reduces the bar, doesn't remove it.
Going back further, skilled sponsored was part of the Family Stream, it was moved to the Skilled Stream around 1997. That didn't make a real difference to visa requirements.
But what people need to understand is that a family member who is an Australian citizen is only enough *in itself* to get you into Australia if you are a spouse or dependent child of that person.
All other visas that involve family sponsorship have *additional* requirements in terms of skills or family links.

Just got an ear bashing from my other half... our application is a bit different to the others, it seems that not all the other agents that we used were clued up, as regards to the different criteria: eg using your work experience from another trade thats on the list, this is ok to do, and its what we are doing.
My O/ H said it looks as though we have got a dodgy visa app, which we havn't!! sorry if I mislead you....
As I say keep trying don't be put off, if you have lots of experience in a trade thats on the TRA (or other) then use that?

We applied on family visa Sept 2003, things looked good, then mu Auntie said she could not do it, she was scared.
then we was going to Perth on points but the points system went up, and that failed.
Then we was being sposored by a friend[ hubby is Gas fitter/plumber] he lost a big contract , so another blow, but we never gave up.
We got sponsored by the Government in Victoria, but really did not want to go there.
So we tried Perth again, as a last resort, and they asked why we would not go South, we never heard of the south west, they where desperate for Plumbers.
We rang round companies and got a sponsor, we had sold the house, and was ready to go, 2 month later 7th Dec 2004 we landed in Perth, we now live in the beautiful Bunbury South west. we have been here 14 months and love it.
Good luck and never give up on a dream, hope it works out for you .

first of all,, HUGH thanx to everyone who took the time to read my post and reply..
my brother is a willing sponsor, but the agent said i still need 6 years. i would be happy to live anyware in oz. there is so much infomation about and some of it seems to conflict with what others say. and as policy changes they dont all update to the latest.
i think i have to sit face to face with a few agents and spend a good hour looking at every approach.
i will start with all the links and pm's that have been sent me over the last few days..
and when i do get in, its all round to mine...the drinks are on my missus...

[QUOTE=Watty'n'Arls] I would ask an agent - we are using www.ianharrop.co.uk and they are absolutely fantastic - they will tell you over the phone if there is a way for you to get in ( he is an ozzie and knows all the routes)
I agree, definitely get in touch with Ian Harrop and Associates, they are very helpful and really know their stuff. They got our skills assessment in just over two weeks on a very tricky case which would certainly have failed without them.
Keep trying, don't give up!
All the best
