I can heartily recommend HSBC. I was with them in the UK, and opened an Australian account (Brisbane branch) before coming out here. Too easy! You get your own personal banker (so don't have to speak to a faceless nobody in another country). They've also given me a lot of advice - such as how to avoid the 'debits tax' on each withdrawal.

And no, I'm not on commision from them!

Yes indeed. I went down that route. It wasn't until they posted me a huge pack of info on holding my funds overseas and the tax issues, that I realised it wasn't what I wanted. Not yet anyway!
