Default HR Jobs in Brisbane

Hi!

I'm very keen on taking the plunge and moving to OZ for a year on a WHV. Although it will be a WHV ideally I want to impress an employer enough for them to sponsor me after 6 months....(wishful thinking maybe)!!

I have quite a good job in the UK in HR but it is the only thing that is holding me back.

Has anyone else taken the plunge and moved to Oz and managed to get a HR job?

Which area in Brisbane is a good place to stay?

Hope to hear some good advice.

Thanks!

Ok - firstly - I know knowing specifically about working in HR. Secondly I moved to Australia over 12 years ago - so much of what I say may be out of date. However:

I first came over on a WHV to Brisbane in '98 and - like your plan - impressed my employers sufficiently to end up being sponsored on longer temporary resident visas and ultimately moving through PR and citizenship....

However, the economy is very different now. I think you may well struggle to find a 'decent' job with just a WHV now. Employers are reluctant to deal with any potential hassle with visas and if you arent at least PR then you'll likely be at the back of the queue. So unless your skillsets are unique and sought after you could be in trouble.

Having said that - people (including myself) have managed it, so dont dismiss the idea completely out of hand, just be aware that you could find yourself having an expensive holiday propped up by little more than standard 'backpacker' jobs if things dont work out as you planned.

IF, you do manage to land a decent job in Brisbane then you'll need somewhere to live. Working on the assumption (based purely on the fact you're looking at a WHV) that you're young and single, there are plenty of decent places to live close to the city in lively suburbs. Inner suburbs are all full of apartments and there are lots of adverts in local press for shard accomodation to help keep costs down

Many thanks for the advice and info I really appreciate it.

I know what you are saying about the economy but I am very determind. If I go and it doesn't work out at least I can say I tried - you only live once!

Thanks again!

The best thing to do is look at some of the big companies in the industry in which you specialise and maybe try connect with their HR departments and ask the question. Alternatively try linkedIn and do it that way mate.

You're prolly going to want to live near the city cos that's where youre likely to find work.

Good luck mate
