Wrapping the lights around a piece of cardboard
does the trick too.

Buy a huge triangular conical shaped box.

Lower it over pre-decorated tree, slide cardboard underneath and tape it up.

Store in a cool dry place, until next year

Keep it out of road of dogs though, otherwise they'll use it as a peeing post.
