How Much You Taking??
I know this has been asked before, and that it is not a nice question to answer, but wanted to get an idea of how much money people were budgeting for. as a couple with a 4 month old. i am SH*T scared of not being able to provide for my family, but Ever since me and my girlfriend visited Perth to see what it was like 3 years ago we have had itchy feet since.
We have saved up about 3 1/2 grand for the Visa and have about 12,000 tied up in the flat.

Were off to Perth in 2006 and won't be taking much more than you. The way I look at it is that we'll be completely debt free. Not many people can say that. All the best

I'll try. I think it cost us about £1,200 for the visas, including the medicals. We've spent about £1,200 on one-way flights (4 days before Christmas, so this is probably more than at other times) and a couple of hundred on a hotel for the first couple of nights there (as it's our wedding anniversary we're treating ourselves!).
After that, we're staying with friends over Christmas then off travelling before I start work on 6th March. We've got about £8,000 to last us that, including buying a car, and I think we'll run out before we get there. To be honest, I'm mildly concerned, but I'm working on the principle that we can stick a bit on credit cards as I have a guaranteed job.
I'm not sure that helped much, but I'll have more of a clue in March

Any idea of what other people are taking and what they are doing are a help, I hope it does work out for you.I have not even started the visa yet but hope to ring an agent in the next week.

We didnt' use an agent, so that money isn't in there. To be honest, I figured I was going to have to dig the paperwork out myself, so why not just send it rather than bother with someone else.
But then I'm easy - a chartered engineer doesn't need as much paperwork as some!

I think debt free is the most important thing. After all, we're starting new lives, so who wants the debts of the old ones hanging around?
Anything else we can earn. We started from scratch (well, heavily indebted scratch) when we graduated 7 years ago. We can do it again!

We took about £18k with us. Bought new car $22k and paid for 3 months rent in advance, figured that as long as we had transport and a roof over our heads we'd be fine. We were as hubby got a good job in 5 weeks.
