TV - what size etc? You can get a decent 42 inch plasma for about $2500, a normal size TV from around $800 or smaller ones from around $200

BEDS - Anywhere from $200 depending on matress, type of bed, where you shop.

TABLE &CHAIRS $500+

3 PIECE SUITE $700+

FRIDGE FREEZER $1000+

MICROWAVE $200+

OTHER ELECTRICALS I:E TOASTER&KETTLE $250+

OH AND 2 DECENT MOTORS $10k+ (each)

They are all from prices, it really depends on where you shop, what your taste is and whether you want good quality stuff or just something to start you off.

What you are best doing is going to a few different shops and getting them to tell you their 'cash price' which can vary quite a lot from their 'advertised price' - and remember to HAGGLE

Hi

I assume your having your stuff shipped ?? If so you are probably in the same boat as we were when we arrived.
These prices are roughly what we paid nearly 2 yrs ago:

TV - Portable from JB Hi-Fi = $49.99
DVD Player - from JB Hi-Fi = $49.99
(Both of which are still working fine BTW)
Table with extension which will seat 8 = $149.99 from Ikea
4 Chairs = $25.00 each from Ikea
3 Seater Sofa = $299.00 from Ikea

All of the above we bought just to do us until our container arrived. They are all still used and in excellent condition.

Fridge / Freezer = $1000 from Clive Peters. Its a Big 'Un........Our old F/F from the UK now houses my extensive collection of Beers......
Toaster / Kettle / Sandwich Toaster = All $49.99 each from KMart, and again all still in regular use.

Things you havn't listed is beds.....You will need 'em as rentals are empty.
We bought a double blow up and a single blow up from KMart for about $100.00.
Cutlery / Pots and Pans etc etc, will set ya back approx $150.00, again this depends on wether they are just to tide ya over or not.

A couple of decent motors will set ya back about $10,000 each easy.

Just one suggestion, if it's for a rental and you're waiting for your container or you don't know how big the house will be you eventually buy or move to - don't get a dining room set, go for a patio set. That way they are cheaper, you will need it anyway and it makes a perfectly good dining suite for the time being.

We spent just over $25k on furnishing out house AND we bought a car (car cost $10k)

We've probably added another $5k worth of stuff now though, the figure above was for one of everything that was essential. Like Fridge, Settee, Washer, TV, Beds, cutlery, plates, bedding etc

don't buy anything from places like Myers, David Jones etc... rip off prices.

Let me know when you get here and what you are looking for and I will tell you best places. But mainly stick to Fyshwick for all items you mentioned - even 2nd hand car dealer - we have had 3 cars from this guy down at Fyshwick - and he is
a decent bloke (for a car salesman)

We spent less that that and we furnished a 4 bed house with good quality stuff. Almost all of our furniture is solid hardwood - we just shopped around at independent stores in the various home maker centres. Solid wood furniture is much cheaper than the UK, seems pointless buying the usual veneer stuff. Sometimes you have to haggle a bit to get a good price though

why wouldnt you buy from myer. they will price match any product and beat it by 10%. then you can take out a myer credit card and get a further 10% off and 12 months interest free. not a bad deal i reckon.
