How long can you stay on LAFHA for ?

How long can you stay on LAFHA for ?
Currently on a 457 with just over 12 months left.
We claim LAFHA
If we were to extend our stay with another temp Visa, can we continue to claim LAFHA ?
If we state that we still intend to return to our place of citizenship at some point, or is this taking the pi$$ with the ATO ?

If you apply and get another 457 visa you can continue to get LAFHA. If and when you apply for a PR visa you lose the LAFHA from the date you apply for PR.

To add to the info above you are still able to receive LAFHA on a 2nd 457 but it depends if your new employer chooses to offer it. It isn't a compulsory requirement for temporary visa holders.

I have had my existing 457 renewed by my employer, done 3 years and now 6 months into a new 4 year term. Still eligible for and receive LAFHA, its no hardship for the company so why stop it.
