Sorry another dog question!! How easy is it to rent over in Australia, Englands a nightmare. Just had a change of minds and going sooner but we just gave a home to a dog(only had her two weeks) would it be hard on her??
Any advice would be great will be taking the children

Never used to be as bad, now getting very hard with pets. Too many people not enough houses.

Children will be the next to be a problem, especially young chocolate finger print on newly painted walls like mine.

Plenty of places in Perth to rent with dogs your have to pay a pet bond, most dogs over here live outside unless there ex poms like mine and too much of a wuss!

Rehome the kids and take the dog, we never had a problem renting with our dog

The only issue is that in some places it can be really hard to find a place to rent these days. A dog certainly doesn't help, for us it meant that we had to go for a less than brilliant first rental. All history now, but was a bit depressing.

My advice is:
Don't arrive in Jan/Feb when Uni start (we did)
Be prepared to offer extra bond etc
Have references ready, statements from employers etc. If you can give the impression that you are the perfect tenant in all other ways than the dog that will move you up the list. There is a lot of bad tenants around that don't give a shit, so you have to stress this point.

We found a few who do state they are pet friendly (look on realestate.com) most will definitely list 'no pets' others say 'on application'. We've got 1 cat coming over and we were limited with our choices. Lots of townhouses on gated complexes are completely pet free so you've got no chance. Also some smaller duplexes have shared gardens so pets wouldn't be good there either. However, pet friendly houses are out there but be prepared to compromise slightly either on location or price (ours was price ) We have also had to sign in our lease that when we move out the carpets will need to be professionally cleaned and flea treated, even though our cat has regular flea treatments, but that's a small price to pay.
