Hello,

This is the first time I have posted on here. We are already over here living in Oz and unfortunately never found this site before we left as it would have been very helpful.

We are living over here on a Permanent Resident Visa as my husband is an electrician so he had enough points. We're enjoying it but for various reasons we don't think we'll stay here long term just yet. We always said we'd give t a year to see how things work out.

However we think we may return in the future so would like to find out how to get citizenship. Do we have to reside and work in oz for 2 years? If we didn't get citizenship, how easy would it be to renew the visa's we have.

Thank you for sending me that, that's very useful. As I don't think we'll meet the requirements for citizenship, do you know how it works to get a resident return visa - how easy it is and what it entails etc, I couldn't find it on that website.

You would only need to apply for a RRV if your PR Visa has 'expired', if you are within the 5 yrs then you dont need it, however if you leave Australia before you have Citizenship and you PR staus expires, i should imagine it would be difficult for you to get an RRV if you havnt been living in Australia.

Remember that an RRV only keeps the door open for a few years. Stay overseas too long without some very specific ties to Australia, and you'll find your PR will be gone.
