The dates on eggs here are usually over a month away when they are displayed in store/market. So can you tell when an egg was laid by the best before date?
You can check that they are not off by placing them in a water-filled container that.......if the egg floats completely to the top (ie is not sitting on the bottom of the container) then dont eat it.

If it sinks but lies vertical it is stale, If it sinks & lies horizontal it is fresh,
If it sinks & is semi horizontal it is approx. a week old
