Question How fresh are the eggs?

In UK, you could work out how fresh eggs were by the best before date, 21 days after being laid.

The dates on eggs here are usually over a month away when they are displayed in store/market. So can you tell when an egg was laid by the best before date?

Not an eggspert in this but.

A friend who has a small poultry farm says that the average UK supermarket egg is 4 month's old when it hits the shelf!

This is why you should get friendly with a local chicken keeper or find a farmers market the taste difference is incredible.

And you get yellow yolks! not a washed out lemon colour.

Supermarket eggs yuk.

I have another egg question. Why are eggs in Aus usually a lot smaller than the ones in UK?

Do Australian chickens have smaller punanis than British ones?

Our eggs were as fresh as............. were it not for the fox. Mr fox has beaten us; he's killed 12 chooks overall........ so it's back to buying eggs from Coles.
